Position Available: Sales Lead

Full/Part Time: Full Time (40hrs/wk)

Starting Wage: $16.50/hour

Job Description & Responsibilities:

The Wilderness Exchange mission is to serve the Front Range outdoor community with the highest level of customer service, the best selection of technical gear, and the greatest deals on outdoor equipment! Ideally, we’d be stoked on a candidate that has previous outdoor retail experience, but as long as you have a passion for the outdoor culture and lifestyle, and an abnormally high level of psych for getting folks the gear they need, then you’d likely be a good fit. We are a small company, and as a result, you may find yourself working on a medley of different tasks throughout the day. Some days are super busy, some days are kinda slow – either way, we try to create a fun and safe working environment, where our staff feel comfortable, appreciated, and that their opinions are valued.

Sales Lead responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Sales and customer service - leading by example

  • Promoting our mission statement, company values, and a positive work environment

  • Understanding the fundamentals of running a retail store

  • Direct the daily activities of Sales Associates and ensure tasks are getting completed

  • Support sustainable and value-added customer experiences 

  • Assist in the growth and professional development of sales associates under the guidance and mentorship of the Store Manager

  • Provide “feedback on the fly” to staff regularly

  • Provide effective verbal and written communication to Management team

  • Participate in the morning “huddles” where daily goals are articulated to staff

  • Performing all opening and closing procedures, running daily register reports

  • Holding keys and performing all security protocols

  • Fitting customers for packs, footwear, climbing shoes, ski boots, etc.

  • Training new staff and monitoring their performance

  • Answering phones and fielding customer questions

  • Stickering and security tagging product, and some other admittedly boring stuff

  • But, most importantly - getting people STOKED on getting outside!

Some base knowledge of the categories that we sell is required, and semi-expert knowledge of at least one of the categories is preferred. Our categories include, but are not limited to: Climbing, Backpacking, Technical Apparel, Footwear, and Backcountry Skiing. 

Other Job Requirements:

  • Previous retail management experience is preferred 

  • Must be psyched on the things we sell

  • Must have some weekend availability

  • Good sense of humor is preferred, but not required

  • Must have proof of Covid vaccination
