The Position: Director of Fabric Development

Located in the beautiful resort town of Ashland, Oregon, this rapidly expanding company is looking for an individual with experience in project management and a strong background in textiles to lead the Company's fabric development process, manage multiple fabric development projects to meet quality specifications and function, and ensure on-time fabric commercialization and delivery. This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer.
We are looking for an individual with a minimum of five years of textile development and/or mill production experience and proven project management skills. This individual must be an excellent problem-solver and communicator.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Develops new fabrics and works to improve existing fabrics.
- Works closely with mill partners to develop trials and bring fabric projects to fruition.
- Evaluates R&D sample trials and documents in appropriate systems.
- Oversees management of fabric files, sample archives, and inventory of R&D trials.
- Assists in development of fabric technical specifications.
- Oversees data entry related to sample evaluations.
- Researches applicable military specifications and industry requirements.
- Works closely with Field Test Coordinator to test new fabrics in garment test projects.
- Ensures the timely commercialization of new fabrics.
- Provides support for maintaining the quality of all fabrics.
- Works with project development team to review pre-production samples and indentify/resolve issues.
- Collaborates with product development team to accurately update fabric specifications.
- Works closely with marketing, production, compliance, and customer service to communicate project progress and resolve issues.
- Works close with sales and/or customers to develop new fabrics.
- Extensive domestic travel required.
SKILLS:
- Minimum 5 years experience in textiles and/or mill production.
- B.S. Degree in Textiles or related field, or comparable experience; graduate degree preferred.
- Knowledge of fabric characteristics, performance, patternmaking, and manufacturing techniques used to produce fabrics and garments.
- Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
- Ability to work with minimal direction.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
