Director of Sales

Summary

Reporting to the VP, Sales & Marketing, the Director of Sales is responsible for the management of both our internal sales organization and our team of independent wholesale representatives. The ideal candidate will have successful experiences selling products to major outdoor retailers (Walmart, Dick’s, Bass Pro Shops, etc.), leading a high performing sales team that manages key accounts and a group of external independent sales representatives, and will be highly analytical. This job will office at our Head Quarters in Louisville, Colorado and travel up to 30% of the time.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the VP, Sales & Marketing, and leadership peers across the organization to develop and execute on key sales objectives.
  • Design and implement strategic plans to reach overall sales targets.
  • Create both short-term and long-term sales goals and objectives for all members of the sales organization.
  • Work closely with customers to better understand their business needs and goals.
  • Ability to identify and solve customer pains as part of the selling process.
  • Oversee sales/account management of key “house” accounts.
  • Create strong relationships with key client stakeholders at senior and mid-management levels.
  • Understand the competitive landscape and market trends in the outdoor sporting goods categories.
  • Develop sales programs and promotions to generate incremental sales.
  • Collaborating with Marketing to develop sales collateral.
  • Lead the sales team by recruiting, selecting, supporting, developing, and motivating the team.
  • Developing and reporting the results of detailed annual budgets.
  • Ability to analyze key internal sales data, industry data, as well as retail POS results to drive actionable strategies.
  • Implementation and adoption of sales and marketing automation objectives such as B2B and CRM platforms.
  • Planning and executing both industry and customer trades shows.

 

Requirements:

  • At least 5 years of experience leading a successful sales team at an outdoor industry CPG company.
  • Have a passion for the outdoors and industry knowledge of outdoor sporting goods related products with an emphasis on hunting, shooting, and archery products.
  • Ability to travel 25% to 30% of schedule.
  • High level critical thinking skills and an ability to react and solve issues in a high energy, demanding environment.
  • Keen business sense, with the ability to find business solutions to fulfill opportunities.
  • Excellent presentation skills with the ability to communicate our value proposition as well as strong negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical capabilities – working knowledge of retail/wholesale business math and key performance metrics.
  • Effective collaborator with excellent people skills supporting a team environment.
  • Proficient in MS Office: Outlook, Excel, and Word.  CRM experience would be a plus.
