Job Description & Requirements

Massif is seeking a Technical Design Manager to manage the development process to assure timely development of high- performance technical clothing product lines that meet company’s vision, strategy, and goals. Key responsibilities include managing the development process from initial prototyping to commercialization. To lead the Patternmaker, Assistant Patternmaker, Technical Designer, and Sample Administrator.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborates with Senior Management to set priorities, target timelines, and pre-costing garments for new projects
  • Manages Tech Design and Development Process from prototype through to ESR’s/Commercialization to ensure commercialized products meet specifications set in Product Brief, including fit, form, and function, and to meet target deadlines
    • Works closely with Sr Manager Design and Developmentto execute the design vision of Company products
    • Works closely with Supply Chain to communicate status and facilitate timely order fulfillment of key launches.
  • In connection with the introduction of new products:
    • Creates project components for portion of products to be developed and ensures accuracy in regard to: BOM’s, tech packs, prototypes, ECO generation, IFTs/EFTs and ISR/ESR’s
    • Leads and manages team to ensure all project components are developed and accurate for:  BOM’s, tech packs, patterns, prototypes, ECO generation, IFTs/EFTs and ISR/ESR’s
  • Communicates withmanufacturing partners throughout the development process to ensure that company requirements and timelines are met, and that all issues and problems are resolved prior to production.  
  • Leads fits sessions for assigned styles to provide feedback relating to garment fit and functionality
  • Liaises with internal SC partners to collaborate for execution of new product development and product ECO’s 
  • Participates in strategic planning sessions. 
  • Leads, manages, and mentors the Patternmaker, Assistant Patternmaker, Technical Designer, and Sample Administrator to build quality technical product.
  • Attends photo shoots and trade shows as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Performs all duties in accordance with Company Quality Management System
  • Occasional domestic and international travel

 

 

COMPETENCIES:

  • Excellent understanding of garment design, patternmaking, construction, fitting, and performance
  • Strong knowledge of Company products, including fit, form, and function
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, costing, garment specifications, and industry requirements
  • Strong analytical skills and creative problem solving
  • Project Management to adhere to deadlines and alert of issues affecting deliverables
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including strong presentation skills
  • Team-player
  • Excellent ability to organize and effectively prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines
  • Self-initiating, with ability to work independently
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, MRP System, Web searching, Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Experience working in a PLM system preferred.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Design, or equivalent education or experience
  • At least ten years of experience in apparel design, development, or merchandising
  • At least five years of experience in managing staff

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

This position is primarily a sedentary position, which requires frequent use of a computer monitor and keyboard. It requires frequent walking and standing. It requires occasional reaching, bending, and fine manipulation. It requires the ability to talk and hear. It requires color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors).  There are no other special vision requirements.  It rarely requires grasping and lifting up to 10 pounds

This position is in an open work environment with moderate office noise.

This position requires occasional work near equipment with moving parts and hot irons; exposure to airborne particles related to fabric/fiber dust from cutting fabric; moderately loud noise and vibration from multiple sewing machines.

This position occasionally requires driving a rental vehicle while traveling on Company business.
