Job Description & Requirements

This position will lead the global distribution strategy for the companies in the planned new “Outdoor” public company to drive an economically competitive distribution, logistics and supply chain operation to achieve both best in class service and distribution cost advantages for all locations and operations across the Outdoor network. This person must be an eCommerce distribution expert, experienced in influencing, leading, and implementing the areas of strategic distribution planning, development, and deployment in a fast paced and dynamic business environment.

Success is measured by defining, driving, and implementing key initiatives to enhance and achieve aggressive goals relative to contemporary world class distribution performance metrics, executing restructuring initiatives, collaborating, and building confidence and credibility with all stakeholders, and delivering a level of service that exceeds all internal and external customers.

This position reports directly to our VP, Strategic Sourcing and Operations and allows you the flexibility to work from your home office.

As the Director, Strategic Distribution, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Provide organization and structure to the Vista Outdoor distribution network to establish the function as a core competency and competitive advantage and as a key value driver to our organic and acquisitive growth initiatives.
  • Create a positive and winning culture within the organization by developing a strategic plan to integrate future acquisitions as a key driver for continued growth
  • Collaborate with the various business units to establish policies (Service Level Agreements, Quality, Customer Interaction, Costs) to drive continuous improvement projects to support the overall strategy and provide scalability and flexibility within the organization
  • Drive the strategy and innovation roadmap to build a more competitive total eCommerce network in line with business growth plans
  • Assist in developing and executing innovative growth strategies to support product distribution and operations
  • Build complex financial models to evaluate distribution-related decision making and allow “what if “ decision making
  • Prepare comprehensive business plans, including P&L and cash flow projections, as well as NPV & ROI analysis for (i) new window/channel distribution initiatives, and (ii) internal business performance improvement, including organizational design and efficiencies
  • Develop and lead the strategic distribution global network to achieve year over year service and cost improvement performance across the network
  • Develop strategic relationships with current partners and companies operating across a variety of platforms in both traditional and digital consumer distribution segments
  • Assess organizational and operational effectiveness and recommend changes and/or enhancements that will improve operating processes and performance
  • Develop and maintain a collaborative and positive relationship with all business unit leadership teams
  • Interface effectively with the cross-functional teams to assure alignment with the global operational objectives, and performance expectations
  • Assess distribution assets quarterly to match capacity and utilization with actual inventory storage requirements and thruput needs across all DC's
  • Work with the Finance team to plan, prepare and present a Center of Excellence Distribution related budgets annually

You have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations Management, Business Administration, or Industrial Engineering 
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of senior leadership experience in one or more of the functions above
  • Multi-site leadership, preferably with some global experience and responsibility
  • Demonstrated accomplishments driving eCommerce growth, scaling fulfillment operations to enable exponential volume and revenue growth
  • Experience with network modeling, identifying optimum distribution center locations
  • Strong transformational leadership, collaborative, interpersonal and organizational skills at all levels
  • Passion to win, ability to motivate and drive next level results, and strong team player
  • Ability to travel throughout the US and Globally
  • Exposure to RFP activity for Truckload, small parcel, and ocean an advantage

Skills:

  • Expert Change Agent Manager and the Ability to influence without directly owning
  • Experience with DC automation and systems integration
  • Superior analytical, presentation and communication skills – written and verbal
  • Strong business / financial acumen - ability to form judgments with little guidance and work well independently
  • Forward-thinking, strategic, tactical, and detail-oriented; proven ability to work across an organization at all levels with distribution, supply chain, and executive team members
  • Knowledge of eCommerce logistics, fulfillment, best practices, and industry advancements
  • Strong project management skills and ability to balance competing priorities, complex situations, and deadlines
  • Proven ability to build relationships and successfully manage various locations with a variety of strategic vendors and partners
  • Develops constructive and effective working relationships with internal and external customers and clients
  • Self-starter who works well in a team environment
  • Knowledge of relevant WMS applications
  • Ability to identify problems, issues and opportunities and sets a course of action based on factual data
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management and associates through written and verbal communication
  • The position will be remote but 30 to 50% travel to the business locations on a regular basis will be essential
