Job Description & Requirements

The Base Area Director leads the operations, team and culture of the base area at Bluebird Backcountry Ski Area. The base is a guest’s first interaction with Bluebird Backcountry and key to the welcoming culture that we create. This person will supervise the team and daily operations of the core parts of the base area: plowing, guest services, rentals, camping, food and plowing. This person will also lead the setup and takedown of Bluebird Backcountry’s base.


This is a leadership role at Bluebird Backcountry. As Bluebird expands in future years, this role is a training role for an area General Manager position. This position reports to Soraya McMahon, Bear Mountain GM.

Duties

  • Ensure safe, secure and efficient operations of Bluebird Backcountry’s base area
  • Supervise and train the base area team, including plowing, guest services, rentals, camping and food
  • Create a welcoming culture for all Bluebird Backcountry guests
  • Assist in the design and layout of the base area
  • Manage the budget for guest services, rentals, camping, food and beverage and plowing
  • Lead the setup of the base area with guidance and assistance from the leadership team
  • Lead the takedown of the base area at the end of the season

Qualifications

  • Entrepreneurial self-starter with strong leadership abilities
  • Passionate and experienced backcountry skier or splitboarder
  • Experience managing a small team
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively work with a variety of personnel across various teams
  • Background in either operations, guest services, or both
  • Startup background a plus
  • Basic building skills a plus
  • Enthusiastic individual with a warm, welcoming character

Timing, Pay and Location

  • This is a full-time, seasonal role from approximately December 1st through April 15th.
  • Bluebird will be open 5 days per week from Thursday-Monday, plus possible holidays
  • Pay is $1,200-$1,500/weekly salary plus stock options
  • Bluebird Backcountry is located between Kremmling and Steamboat Springs Colorado, approximately a 35 minute drive from each. Google maps pin here.
