Teach programs and lessons as assigned by supervisor;
Encourage patrons to utilize the Sk8-Cary Pro Shop;
Promote the Sk8-Cary memberships;
Assist with distribution and collection of program evaluation forms;
Manage day to day operations of assigned programs (i.e. BMX and Skate Classes for Beginners,
Introductory courses, Private Lessons, Track-Out Camps, etc.);
Complete individualized participant skill evaluation forms and distribute to program participants;
Conduct individual participant skill evaluations as assigned by supervisor;
Develop and maintain private lesson clientele;
Maintain up-to-date timesheet and lesson book;
Develop short and long term goals with students and review on a regular basis;
Ensure participants know what the next step is in their progression of learning;
Promote all Sk8-Cary programs and offerings to patrons;
Assist with Sk8-Cary contests/events as assigned by supervisor;
Ensure patrons are contacted in advance if class will not be held due to lack of enrollment or
weather;
Assist with course maintenance items, including, but not limited to, light ramp maintenance, course clearing and preparation;
Assist with maintaining neat and orderly storage spaces to include straightening, organizing and cleaning designated storage areas quarterly, additionally if necessary or as designated by supervisor;
Assist with planning and executing special events;
Performs other job-related tasks as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Comprehensive knowledge of skateboarding skills and strategies and some knowledge of rollerblading and BMX skills; knowledge of modern principles and practices of recreation and physical education; ability to perform basic skateboarding, BMX, and rollerblade skills; ability to promote programs and interact with customers; ability to lead and motivate participants in outdoor activities pertaining to the sports we offer; ability to lead other employees in instructing programs; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Town and community; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to solve disputes with fairness.
MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school with some experience in instructing program participants. Experience teaching or coaching youths one-on-one and in groups in the areas of skateboarding, BMX, and in-line skating is preferred.
Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.
