The Position: Sales Operations Manager
Midwest Mountaineering, a leading independent specialty outdoor retailer, is seeking a Sales Operations Manager. This is the number one position under the owner, Rod Johnson, who has recently turned 60. He hopes to eventually pass much of his work, and possibly ownership, to this person, as general manager. Midwest Mountaineering has a 40-year history of providing the very best in outdoor gear, apparel and footwear to outdoor enthusiasts. We have annual sales of $5,000,000+ and 70 employees. Our mission is “Sharing Passion for the Outdoors.” The Sales Operations Manager will share that passion in providing the kind of customer service that Midwest Mountaineering is known for. Customer Service
∙ Functions as a role model, ensuring that customer service remains our top priority
∙ Spends adequate time actually working on the sales floor to stay in touch with customers and sales associates
∙ Oversees merchandising and the overall appearance of the store
Store Operations
∙ Participates in setting and achieving sales goals for all sales departments
∙ Develops and implements store sales operations procedures and policies
∙ Schedules and staffs the store efficiently
∙ Has major organizational responsibility for two large Outdoor Adventure Expos each year
∙ Controls operations-related expenses and manages loss prevention
∙ Communicates with buying staff to keep appropriate merchandise available
∙ Looks for opportunities to improve store processes
People Management
∙ Strategically recruits and trains a professional, enthusiastic and customer-focused sales staff that delivers excellent customer service
∙ Represents and promotes the Midwest Mountaineering brand
∙ Provides coaching, motivation and evaluation to staff that ensures professional behavior and excellent product knowledge
∙ Sets a standard of professionalism and respect in communications with staff, management and customers
∙ Fosters positive relationships and empowers staff by seeking input from them in decisions, and builds consensus around change
Requirements
∙ At least 3 years successful experience in retail sales management
∙ Leadership and the ability to inspire trust, integrity and positive motivation in employees
∙ Excellent business savvy
∙ Willingness to role play in sales training
∙ Ability to complete projects promptly
∙ Good technical computer and communication skills
∙ Excellent organizational, problem-solving and communications skills
∙ Flexibility to work retail hours, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
∙ Love for the outdoors
